Some knives feature a Scandi grind (a flat bevel that runs all the way to the edge). This makes them straightforward to sharpen:
Most users sharpen these knives at around 11.5°–13.5° per side (total included angle of ~23°–27°, depending on blade thickness).
The SureAngle 12 degree clamp lets you set a precise, consistent angle via the jig and parabolic rod guide. You can dial in the exact angle that matches your Scandi Edge (e.g., 12° ) and maintain it evenly from tip to heel — which is one of the system’s biggest advantages over traditional rod-guided sharpeners.
For a true Scandi edge, some people prefer laying the bevel flat on a stone, but the SureAngle works great if you want a micro-bevel or a controlled secondary bevel on top of the Scandi grind.
Practical Tips for Using SureAngle 12 Degree Clamp
Start with a coarser diamond hone (e.g., 300–600 grit) if the edge is dull or needs repair.
Move to finer grits for a polished edge.
Use light pressure — diamonds work best with minimal force on carbon steel.
After sharpening, a quick stropping pass (leather or with compound) will give you a scary-sharp edge that holds very well.
The parabolic guide helps eliminate the common problem of changing angles along the blade length, so you get a more uniform edge even on the curved belly and tip of a Mora.
If your knive has a very pronounced Scandi grind and you want to keep it 100% flat (no secondary bevel), a traditional flat stone or guided Scandi-specific jig might feel more “pure,” but the SureAngle is still highly effective and far more consistent than freehand or basic V-rod systems.
